Don’t forget the details!
Hello Everyone!! I was talking to a possible customer yesterday about all the little items along the path to the actual wedding and realized that not only had she not realized all those dessert details but other brides, grooms, and all of the wonderful soon-to-be brides most likely haven’t thought of them either! I have compiled a list of different wedding stops that come into passing on the way to the ceremony/reception!! Feel free to pass this along to anyone you know that might need this! And, remember you guys….not everything has to be a cake! There are lots of options out there…
1. Engagement Party (normally hosted by the bride and groom)
2. Bridal Shower (hosted by the maid/matron of honor – it is becoming customary that while they plan it, the bride and her family helps pay for it!)
3. Bridesmaids Luncheon (This one is paid for by the Bride, this is where she tends to give the girls there gifts! Traditionally it is at a nicer restaurant, as well….)
4. Bachelor Shower (most bakeries can make very elegant novelty cakes now-a-days, the best man normally covers the cost for this dessert, as well as plans the event for the guys!)
5. Bachelorette Shower (this can be combined with #6 depending on who, what, and where!)
6. Lingerie Shower (women only! Ok ladies, this is a growing trend with the 21st century brides and can include the full realm of “pamper” products! Remember to check with the bride as she may want only certain persons at this party!)
7. Rehersal Dinner (Traditionally held by the groom’s parents, this is a great place to have a funky, fresh cake that represents the soon-to-be couple’s fun side!)
8. Bridal Cake (Don’t let anyone influence your choice except your groom! This is representing you – not your mom, mother-in-law, best friend, or sister!)
9. Groom’s Cake (If your groom doesn’t like cake, get his favorite dessert!)
10. Don’t forget the treats for the honeymoon! (I will let your mind’s wander here….)
I hope that this list helps you find your way through the dessert road! It is always important to remember that most bakeries will discount a lot of the desserts if you book your wedding with them! Happy eating everyone!

Newly Engaged..? Top 10 things to do first!
First Things First:
Enjoy your engagement for a couple of weeks! Have fun, cuddle, be with each other in the new spark of engagement! Too often do new bride’s get to excited and wrapped up in now I have to start planning cause the ring is there…WRONG! Don’t let your groom feel like he is being pushed to the side, chances are he put a lot of effort into planning on how he was going to ask you to be his wife…
Now for the fun stuff!!
Remember to keep your groom included throughout the process, listen to him and let him make some choices. It is a new era in weddings and it is not just about the bride anymore but about the union between the bride and the groom!
- 1. Have fun telling people that you are now engaged. Send a funny e-card, most of the time this is free and you can personalize it to your personalities!
- 2. Plan an engagement Party to celebrate with your IN TOWN family and your CLOSE friends! Remember that the bride and groom normally pay for this!
- 3. Pick the Wedding Date! Couple get married on certain dates for a various amount of reasons – the date can be your anniversary, the day he popped the question a year later, any reason at all…it is important to remember that if you find a venue that you fall in love with you might have to be flexible on the date!
- 4. That brings us to the Reception Site! You might be asking why this is so high up on the list of things to do, right? It is important to remember that reception venues fill up fast, especially nice ones as they are more popular. You many have to be flexible on the date as the sites can book any where from a year ahead of time or more depending on how popular your date is!
Don’t get upset over the smaller things and remember that you are planning a celebration of love between you and the man you want to spend your life with, be flexible and you will have a less stressful time planning!
- 5. Get pro engagement photos done!
- 6. Set your budget! This is important to do even before you pick your wedding date as it SHOULD be followed at every step of the planning and booking process. The number one problem with couples is money, that has been proven by many people throughout the years, if you and your groom and your families if they are contributing, plan out a budget ahead of time – stick to it to insure that you don’t start your married life off under a cloud!
- 7. This on is for the Ladies – Find a wedding dress, the sooner the better! You might find a dress you love that is about to be discontinued and you don’t want to buy the sample – you don’t know how many girls have been in that dress or it may be 10x to big for you and alterations are not cheap! Also, if you find a designer gown that you absolutely LOVE but it is not in your budget or you just don’t feel comfortable spending that much on a dress, check out Janet with Classy Concepts in Round Rock, Texas. Classy Concepts specialized in rental gowns for various events including wedding gowns, mother of the bride/groom, bridesmaids, flower girls and even the tux for the guys! It is a lot cheaper to rent it than it is to buy it, alter it, and pay to have it properly stored after the wedding!
- 8. Make a wedding website. This is a good place for your guest to go to R.S.V.P., to get directions to your venue, to see where you are registered at and to read up about you and the groom! If you haven’t meet part of his family and vise-a-versa it is a great way to tell how you guys meet and got engaged! Then you won’t have to tell that story a thousand times at the wedding! Check out www.theknot.com and www.weddingchannel.com. When you sign up for a free account they provide you with a wedding website!
- 9. Consider a Wedding Consultant…ladies, I know what you are thinking, “I can do this without have to waste money on hiring someone else…” WRONG – what happens on the day of the wedding when something goes wrong?? First of all, you don’t want the added stress and secondly, you don’t want to be running around facilitating the wedding, you want to enjoy it. It doesn’t cost money to talk to a consultant and ask him or her questions. You can even ask for references, past brides, that they have worked with….
10. Finally….start that guest list ASAP! Keep a pen and paper handy because you never know when you will think of someone to add to the list! Make it easier on yourself, look through your phone and facebook or myspace account. I am not saying invite the 300 people on your friends list, but your close friends of course! You are more likely not to miss anyone this way! Have your groom do the same. Talk with your parents too, especially if they are pitching in financially, trust me, they will have a list of people to invite! If you are budget conscience – set aside a number of people for each set of parents to invite and just kindly say something like this “We wish we could invite everyone but the – 1. budget only allows for a certain number of people! 2. venue is only so big!”
I hope that this helps any newly engaged couple out there! Congratulations to you and your groom!

Spring 2010 Wedding Cake Trends
What will we find this season in the world of cakes? Bold and Bright hues will be popping up everywhere; the most popular shades that will be making their apperances are turquoise, coral, violet, bright yellows, and varying shades of champagne… Not only will the colors help in making your wedding stand out, it will also accent natures already beautiful background!
Beyond the colors you will also see ribbons and bold lines detailing wedding cakes, however, it is a growing trend to have multiple cakes in place of the traditional tiered cake. Buttercream is vastly making its way back into wedding cakes using fondant for accents such as monograms..
My advice…? Ladies and Gents, get something that makes you two happy! Your cake should be something that represent you guys and your love! Happy baking!
Cake in the face..!
Hello everyone! I thought that I would change things up a bit….I want to let you guys see a part of me and my life; how better to trust someone than to get to know them, right?!
A few weeks ago I went to a friends graduation party – the cake, of course, was done by me – and I thought, why does cake in the face have to be saved for weddings? I not only got my friend but my boyfriend as well…..and as you can see, my friend thought it only fair that the maker of the cake eat some too! Enjoy!
Starting to plan…?
Calling all new brides!! Many brides have gotten a wonderful Christmas gift, a proposal. While there are many things to think about don’t forget about all the desserts that you will need along the way! Here is a helpful list of the many occassions that may require a sweet tooth!
Getting the families together, engagement party, bridal shower, bacholer and bacholerette parties, wedding (of course!), family brunch (day after), and perhaps a yummy treat for the honeymoon!!
Check with your bakery of choice but many will work with your budgets and some may even give you a discount for doing so much business with them!
Congratulations to all those new brides out there!!
Reception foods; the good and the bad
You know the basics, don’t be too cheap but don’t break the bank either! Your menu should fit the setting and feel of your wedding. The same rules that apply to picking out your wedding cake also apply to picking out the rest of the menu…ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS sample what you are wanting your guests to eat! If you don’t like it or wouldn’t order it at a restaurant don’t even think of serving it to your friends and family! Try these websites for some helpful hints to planning the perfect reception menu:

“My groom and I want one cake…but our parents hate what we like…”
I hear this statement so many times! Brides and grooms everywhere LISTEN UP! – - It is your wedding, your special day and while the cake is just part of it, it is there to represent Y’ALLS relationship. It is meant to be elegant, unique, modern, and custom according to what you feel is right. But, don’t be too quick to yell “no”, especially if the parents are the one footing the bill…be patient and calmly explain why that particular cake is so important to you. It also helps if you offer something they can pick, like the dessert at the rehearsal dinner, it keeps everyone from getting their feelings hurt and puts smiles on everyone’s face!
Enjoy!
